The tools, trades and crafts that shaped the American industrial and agricultural landscape are the fodder for articles in The Chronicle which is the journal of the Early American Industries Association (EAIA.) This journal has been published quarterly since September of 1933; just a month after the association was formed. If you are a member of EAIA you will be familiar with The Chronicle, if you are not a member please contact me and I will send you a complimentary copy in hopes that that will convince you to join our organization and to begin receiving the journal each quarter.

Contributors to The Chronicle are members, friends, researchers, students and collectors. EAIA has a robust grants program for those doing research and recipients of grants are required to submit an article at the conclusion of their project. In the current issue there is a comprehensive article on Thomas Passmore, a Philadelphia tinsmith and tinware manufacturer in the early 19th century. This is the second in a series of articles based on the research completed by Karl Schmidt, a recipient of a research grant. Karl is also a noted tinsmith now living in South Dakota where he practices his trade and markets his goods. Other articles include an article on the plane makers (woodworking tools) in 19th century Boston by Edward Fix; Stanley Miter Machine and Picture Frame vise; and book reviews of several books of interest to history and decorative arts buffs.

We are always searching for new material to include in our publication so if you have an area of interest that you would like to share in our publication, please contact me (John Verrill EAIA1933@verizon.net) or our editor Sarah Elaine Thomas at Chronicleeditor@eaia.us. We are anxious to find new material on the tools, trades and crafts that have formed our nation. Are you interested in and have information about flax production, photography, fiber arts, woodworking, manufacturing, water power, tools, living history museums, industrial museums? All of these subjects are ones that interest our members and might be included in future issue of The Chronicle.

I have included a photo of the cover of the most recent issue and hope that too will stir up some interest. For a complimentary copy please email me eaia1933@verizon.net or our membership coordinator Lara Miller at Membership@eaia.us.
